Adept Patient and Public Involvement - Join our Research Efforts!
At Adept, we believe in the crucial role that patients and the public play in shaping and improving research. We are actively seeking individuals who want to make a difference and join our Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) groups. Our goal is to ensure that research is accessible, addresses patients’ needs, and provides tangible benefits to patients.
Join Our PPI Groups Today!
We are looking for a diverse group of service users to join our Adept PPI groups. Whether you have personal experience with healthcare or simply want to make a positive impact, we welcome your participation. Help shape the future of research and become a member of our Adept PPI groups today.
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) defines patient and public involvement in research as an active partnership between patients, carers and members of the public with researchers that influences and shapes research. This ensures that research is carried out with members of the public rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them.
Patient and public involvement (PPI) can include a wide range of ways of being involved and contributing towards the research, from the beginning of a research project to the end and beyond. At the ADePT research unit, PPI groups are run by holding meetings throughout the year to discuss topics and process on projects. PPI advisory group members receive payment for their time spent in meetings or contributing to projects.
Members of PPI groups meet at least 4 times a year, in person or online depending on member preference, typically for between 1 – 2 hours.
Contributions you can make as a PPI member include:
- Assisting direct future research priorities by reviewing research proposals and ideas
- Shaping research project materials and approach through review and feedback
- Sharing lived experience and opinions
- Co-developing and designing dissemination of research findings
- Additional activities such as attending talks/conferences and creating content.
PPI has always helped shape and develop projects in the ADePT unit as well as this, PPI work in the ADePT unit also aims to benefit advisory group members.
For example, previous advisory group members have:
- Presented talks about their experiences
- Written blogs and articles
- Become involved in further research
- Attended conferences
The MCT-PATHWAY project reviewed the PPI work conducted over the course of the study and provided feedback on meeting NIHR standards and how to improve PPI work in future research. We hope to share these results soon!
